Dear SFAC panelists,

This work sample is the sketchnotes I took while observing the SFAC panel discuss my last grant application in 2019. The panel had some very thoughtful and somewhat stinging critiques of that proposal, but their discussion also revealed to me that my process of “art-making as recording” is where they saw the most passion and potential in my art practice.

So that’s what I am focusing on now.

Own that process of art-making as recording
Problem with “collaborative” - didn’t understand that part
alignment - wished stronger, how work would impact policy
Samples - doesn’t feed into public benefit
Stronger thesis about changes to see broader visions and goals of artist, doc eval not strong enough
how artist entering into marginalized community, problematic to speak on behalf of communities, ho to enter spaces of marginalized people, Diverse community as apparatus of career
There is a public benefit
making process transparent strong
History lacking in art-making
one jumping-off point would strengthen
Goal not articulated well - how to create constituency
More geared toward moving in and out of places
Passion of recording was strongest.

Own that Process
